An Academic Life in Law and Finance - Commemorating Brigitte Haar
The Center for Advanced Studies on the Foundations of Law and Finance (LawFin), the Research Center SAFE and the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) organized a symposium to remember their late colleague Brigitte Haar who passed away much too early in spring 2019.
Brigitte had been a Professor at Goethe University for Private Law, German, European, and International Business Law, Law and Finance, and Comparative Law from 2004 on. Since the founding of the House of Finance at Goethe University, Brigitte Haar had represented the “Corporate and Financial Law” group of researchers in the boards of the House and set up the Ph.D. program Law and Economics of Money and Finance (LEMF).
The conference brought together scholars who were close personal and professional companions of Brigitte and share her passion for comparative and interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of law, finance and economics. Speakers presented research that relates to Brigitte’s oeuvre and indicates how her way of thinking about corporate governance and finance provided a trajectory for innovative scholarship in the field that pushes the knowledge frontier.
Among the speakers who presented were Katharina Pistor (Columbia University), Klaus J. Hopt (Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law), Jill E. Fish (University of Pennsylvania), Joe McCahery (Tilburg University), Peter Mülbert (University of Mainz), Georg Ringe (University of Hamburg) and Casimiro Nigro (Goethe University Frankfurt).
