Conference on Regulating Financial Markets

On the occasion of the annual conference “Regulating Financial Markets” top-class speakers from science and research presented their works on August 26/27, 2019 in the House of Finance. The conference was jointly organized by the Center for Advanced Studies on the Foundations of Law and Finance (CAS LawFin), the Deutsche Bundesbank, the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). Rainer Haselmann and Tobias Tröger (both Goethe University, CAS LawFin), Thomas Kick (Deutsche Bundesbank) and Sascha Steffen (Frankfurt School of Finance & Management) formed the organizing committee.

The conference focuses on high-quality theoretical or empirical research papers on regulation of financial markets, especially covering topics on the link between financial intermediation and regulation (e.g. the evaluation of macroprudential tools and unconventional monetary policy on financial institutions, the effects of financial market regulation on the real economy, as well as the impact of regulation on competition among banks and other financial institutions).

In her keynote speech, Antoinette Schoar (MIT) presented new evidence on consumer financial regulation based on credit card market. The second keynote address was held by Viral Acharya (NYU) who presented on the perverse effects of accommodative monetary policies.

Felix Hufeld (German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority – BaFin) held a remarkable dinner speech on threads of climate green for financial stability. Among further speakers were Toni Ahnert, Ramin P. Baghai, Ester Faia, Neeltje van Horen, Christian Leuz, Alberto Manconi, Natalya Martynova, Alessandro Scopelliti, Alessandro Spina.
